Hello Welcome Back,

Let's continue our chat about the Components of a well designed kitchen renovation.

Check out Part 1 Post Here ////

As I go into Part 2 this is where the magic begins...

Before you rush to pick out the Selections , let's discuss the Floor Plan which includes

the layout of the foundation on which the rest of the kitchen will be built.

What goes where?

Have you ever heard of the Work Triangle? No worries I didn't either until I was in Design School.

The kitchen work triangle is a concept used to determine efficient kitchen layouts that are both aesthetic and functional. The primary tasks in a home kitchen are carried out between the cook top, the sink, and the refrigerator.

Here are some rules of thumb for the work triangle that are not in stone and they won't always work in every design, but they can be helpful in your design .

* Each Leg of the triangles should be 4'- 9'

* The total of all three legs should be between 12' 26'

* The triangle should be isolated from the household traffic

Next, let's discuss flooring.

From the Bottom Up..... Flooring is a Major Design Decision

When I am working with clients, I recommend durable and maintainability that will age well. These floorings can still be beautiful and enhance functionality to any room.

Here is a list of flooring material for the kitchen to consider when thinking about making your selections. Style, durability, and easy to clean along with being functional to your needs are all important to consider.

Flooring Types

Spot Light on Materials

Here are a few options! The traditional favorite is hardwood which is very popular because it can be sealed for day to day use. Some real hardwood floors are waterproof and provide protection against everyday spills. Even if you select something that is not waterproofed, it's easy to add the feature later.

Did you also know that laminated flooring can provide the same look on a lower cost basis?

Tile is also rock hard or can be switched out for stone which is very durable and is great for heavy traffic.

Cork comes in a variety of colors and is very durable along with being easy on the feet .

Vinyl flooring is easy to clean and the most budget friendly flooring.

Stay tuned to Components of a well designed kitchen renovation in our series of "Designing Wisdom with Wandra"...

Next on the blog is the CABINETS!

Until next time Wandra
